Paul Denys and his assistant provided excellent work for a roof repair job that turned into an entire rebuild. External support (structural engineer and insulation contractor) were scheduled and organized by Paul without a hitch. Paul was patient and very adaptable especially when the neighbour decided at the last minute to complete his portion of the roof work on his own. Paul and his staff were never idle and ensured that each job, large or small, were done to exacting detail. Paul was always on time and provided updates, as necessary. I tend to have a lot of questions and Paul was always very happy to share his knowledge on building sciences and provide recommendations. It was great to work with someone who takes pride in every aspect of their work. I will definitely have Paul work on future projects for the house and I highly recommend him to anyone looking to have work done on their house.

Paul did a beautiful job on the porch of our victorian house in Ottawa. Almost obsessive with details, he works with extreme care and uses the best material. He is also a fount of wisdom and nifty information about renovations and all things victorian. Above all, he builds for the long, long haul. Worth every penny.

Paul restored our 100+ year-old heritage balcony in the most professional and quality fashion. His skills and easiness to work with are commendable. I highly recommend him.

In the early 90s I hired Paul Denys for a few jobs, including one heritage restauration. We are in 2015 and he is still my number one carpenter. His knowledge, skills and professionalism are out of the ordinary. I highly recommend him. He will not compromise your property by using cheaper material or cutting corners, the job will be done nicely and will last a long time.

Paul Denys has worked on a variety of projects in and around our mid-century modern home over the past 20 years - everything from a new 2nd storey master suite to wonderful renovated basement rooms and a superb backyard fence. We have always been more than pleased with the quality and results of his work. He can be relied upon to meet his time and cost estimates, and we would unhesitatingly recommend him. Paul and his crew were very professional and knowledgeable. Paul worked on two different projects for us so far. He helped upgrade the insulation in our 90+ year old house as well as sealing up windows to decrease our energy loss. He was very good at explaining the different options available to us and giving his recommendations on how to proceed. Paul would always take the time to fill us in on what was happening and how things were going during the job. He stands by the quality of his work and did an excellent job. I would recommend him for work around your house.

Paul delivers: he's highly professional, up-to-date on the latest home construction-renovation technologies. involved us in a myriad of details regarding of our project, followed up on all needed post-construction repairs. Not surprisingly, few were needed.

I highly recommend Paul for all home-based renovation,-restoration projects to those willing to pay top dollar for top quality.

Paul did a great job of replacement of a protective overhang. His suggestions were very much appreciated and the work was done quickly and on budget. He will be my first choice for my next Reno.

I initially consulted Paul about redoing a bathroom. He provided very sound advice and a number of options, including a price range. Rather than redoing the bathroom, he ended up redoing a ceiling for me. Again, he provided excellent advice about what really needed to be done as opposed to a major reconstruction, which he deemed was not required and would have been much more costly and disruptive.

The final result is a very attractive new a ceiling, with moulding, all of which is in harmony with the rest of the house.

He and his apprentice are friendly, meticulous and do superb work.

For Paul to take the time to complete this job speaks highly of his thoughtfulness. My mother-in-law is elderly and very proud of her pool. The job was completed and looks very smart. With his very busy schedule and his work on much bigger projects Paul still found time to help out.

Thank you Paul.

If you want the best possible job done, with the best materials, in a timely fashion, and with the least possible inconvenience Paul Denys is your man. In particular, his expertise in restoration work is top-notch.
If, on the other hand, you want the cheapest shoddy work possible, he is not.

Paul Denys has done a number of projects, both big and small over the years. He has done major renovations and general repairs and is a true professional. He is very knowledgeable and both he and his assistant are always timely, reliable and tidy. Paul does outstanding work and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for quality work.

Paul Denys is a professional in every way. I have dealt with him on a variety of renovations and repairs for over 20 years. He is always patient in explaining the source or sources of problems and potential remedies. He is very knowledgeable about building science and wants to do each job the right way. In my most recent dealing with Paul, he actually turned down potential work because he felt more time was needed to isolate the cause of the issue we were discussing. This kind of decency is rare in the field. Over the years, it has been a relief to know that I can call on Paul for advice and assistance however small or large the task.

Paul has done a number of projects at my 85yr-old house, and all have gone extremely well.
Complete bathroom replacement, kitchen upgrade, dormer rebuild, closets installed in knee-wall spaces, and assorted plumbing and electrical fixes.
Paul presents options to suit the decor style or budget, has a great sense of design and colour, gets everything cleaned up at the end of each day, accommodates customers with allergy issues (dust, chemicals, etc) and does just an all-round good job.
I would recommend to any of my neighbours, i.e. folks that I am going to see daily.

My neighbor and I hired Paul to undertake major repairs/rebuild of the front porch of our semidetached house. The original porch was still standing after 100 years with minimal maintenance so it was need of some serious work. Paul was the only contractor who was willing to undertake the job in stages over two calendar years - every other contractor insisted the only way to do this job was to demolish everything at once. Paul and his assistant Sandy worked efficiently & swiftly without compromising their craftmanship. Their attention to detail was superb. I have received many comments from both friends and strangers about our new front porch, particularly the steps on both sides. I like to tell people who stop to admire the work that I'm seriously considering moving my furniture to the porch as it's now the nicest "room" of my house. Finally, Paul is to be commended for his after-sale service. Unbeknownst to myself or my neighbor he has been monitoring the condition of our porch roof as it awaits its final repair next spring and has been doing his best with temporary repairs to keep the squirrels out. The man is a gem and I am looking forward to working with him again.

We hired Paul Denys to restore the wooden windows in our 1910 house, because he was one of very few who knew what to do, and was supportive of the idea, whereas most suggested replacing the windows. The windows turned out even better than we expected for the same cost of replacing them with new high-end windows. We are happy with the look, the functionality, and the fact we didn't toss perfectly good windows. He sourced fantastic storms which do not require a ladder every season. And during the process, we decided to have him and his crew work on the re-painting of the house exterior, which we had planned for another contractor. But Paul's knowledge of heritage homes, and our confidence in his workmanship and professionalism made it an easy decision. And we were very happy with the end result!

Paul built us a dream kitchen. Seven years after our reno I still marvel at how perfectly it turned out. There is nothing I would change. This was our first reno and Paul taught us so much about design and details. I had no idea there were so many details to consider - lucky for us, Paul knew exactly what he was doing. He and his crew were a treat to have in the house - we missed them when they were gone. After our job was finished, if I had any questions Paul got back to me with an answer within a few minutes - often even just showing up at the door to help. He is an exceptionally nice person with a real can-do attitude. I think we were really lucky to have chosen him to do our job.

We checked out 3 contractors to do work on our 1877 heritage house. Paul came out ahead of all others in our conversations with other clients so we retained him. He's exceedingly knowledgeable about older houses and brings care and professionalism to his work. No hesitation in recommending him to others, we'd certainly hire him again if the need arises.

Paul has extensive building and renovation expertise and tackles projects based on careful planning as well as awareness and interest in appropriate and progressive environmental and energy saving materials and measures. He has tackled a wide range of updates, repairs and energy conservation measures at our home and I would recommend him for future projects. Rick Findlay

Paul Denys and his assistants were courteous, professional and timely. He presented good ideas and his work was of high quality. He did a major kitchen renovation and added a new mudroom. He also had to replace flooring, wiring, plumbing and windows throughout. The work was done while we were living in the house and the disruption was kept to a minimum which was greatly appreciated. I would not hesitate to recommend Denys Builds Designs to anyone looking for quality work.

Paul Denys and his staff provided creative and expert advice in order to meet our renovation needs and budget. Our family lived in the home during the renovations with little disruption as the site was cleaned daily and great care was taken to minimize dust, protect our belongings and safely store tools and equipment. This was important to us as we have young children.

The quality work and attention to detail exceeded our expectations. We have friends who have used other contractors and have been very disappointed and left to correct costly mistakes. With Denys Builds Design, we did not have to worry. Work was done in a professional manner, on schedule and in consultation with us. It was worth every penny! We have no hesitation in recommending the company and would certainly use them again.

We had a small deck out back and asked Paul to come add a secondary deck to connect with it. We had ideas (even sketchy pictures)as a starting place. Paul listened to our ideas and offered some of his own. The final product is perfect for the area. It blends with the old deck so well they look like they were built at the same time. Paul and Robert were pleasant to work with and very conscientious about their work and the work area.

Paul was meticulous, a great source of ideas and a great person with whom to work. The 4 hammers under timeliness are only because with heritage renos there are often issues of time - not his fault, just that is how it often is as surprises are encountered. We were able to contribute some sweat equity where appropriate - always with assistance and advice from Paul - and could discuss options and ideas freely. Am planning another project with this firm - and would recommend to anyone looking for a professional with skills, high standards and lots of good ideas.

Would not hesitate to recommend Denys Builds Designs. I have worked with them on small projects but also on a major restoration project on a turn of the century house. From consultation to final product was a journey I would do again - in fact am doing again this year. Professional, knowledgeable, respectful of both the building and its owners - and the cleanest worksite I have ever experienced. You cannot go wrong.
